PROFILE - Mariama Sonko, a figure of rural women in West Africa
The pan-African rural women's movement "Nous Sommes la Solution" (We Are the Solution), accompanied by the social justice NGO FAHAMOU, marked these two major rural women's events on Gambian soil.
We take this opportunity to highlight the figurehead of rural women in West Africa: Mariama Sonko, who has been compared to the heroine of Senegalese resistance, particularly from Casamance, against French colonization, Aline Sitoé Diatta.
This is the portrait drawn by Essouly DIEDHIOU, who met her in Gambia, where the World Rural Women's and Food Days were being held.
